The Light Cube Club House is a testament to Lin's innovative approach to design. The large area of acrylics is formed into many small, luminous cubes, creating a wall with architectural structure quality through artistic combination. This curtain wall of light and shadow is a unique feature of the design, highlighting the grains and quality of the wall.
Acrylics, a material known for its even luminosity, is paired with LED lights to create the curtain wall of light and shadow. This combination brings the application of light into full play, presenting the light and structure in an artistic way. The result is a complete light cube that showcases the overall luminosity of the design.
The project, spanning 1,800 square meters, was completed in Nanjing, China, in 2018. The design process involved a meticulous study of the combination between acrylic and LED light. A 1:1 acrylic sample was created to determine the final texture, the most stable combination structure, and its reinforcement stability. This research also explored the relationship and permeability of uniform illumination of LED light and acrylic material when making a luminous wall.
One of the challenges faced in the design process was combining the acrylics into a stable acrylic wall. Lin used small acrylic cubes to form a quality wall through different ways of combination. The grains and quality of the wall were highlighted through designing a curtain wall of light and shadow. This approach not only showcased the overall light cube but also presented the light and structure in an artistic way.
The Light Cube Club House is a shining example of Kris Lin's innovative approach to design. His use of acrylics and LED lights to create a luminous wall of light and shadow is a testament to his creativity and technical prowess. This design has rightfully earned him the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2019, a recognition given to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
